President Obama mocked the Washington area's Defcon 1 response to a few snowflakes last week. Let's see how the flinty Chicagoan does with the latest living-in-Washington challenge: critters.

With permission from the Secret Service, the National Park Service has been in hot pursuit of a pack of raccoons spotted roaming the manicured grounds near the White House, a spokesman said.

We have racoons here daily because we live near water. I've never heard any in the valley refer to them as coons.

I think a poster here shows they thought they could sneak by with racist tones. Hate mongers. Were you raised in Rexburg?

We have coons here too and everyone refers to raccoons that way. If the term brings something else to mind for you then that is YOUR problem, not mine!

LONDON—The House of Lords has a momentous decision to make: Should it get cats to chase the mice that have infested one of Britain's most famous buildings? London's Houses of Parliament, also known as Westminster Palace, has rodents, and the peers aren't exactly sure what to do about it.

On Wednesday cats were turned down as the felines could ingest mice poison or wander around the chamber and disrupt business. Using poison and mousetraps are the current thoughts. It seems that the Parliament staff have reported daily sightings of the rodents in the palace's restaurants and bars.
